existing contracted SLAs, near zero downtime was allowable. Additional WAN

EtherChannel architecture. The redesign involved capacity planning and growth
projections for five years for both back-office operations as well a
real-time trading and market data networks. In order to facilitate vendor
selection I created two separate proposals for both Cisco products and
Cabletron products. Using these proposals as a baseline the client was able
to make the selection of a singe network equipment vendor. The final design
used VLANs and Cisco Catalyst 5500s with RSMs to provide collapsed backbone,
layer 2 and 3 switching as well as high speed routing. Identical Catalyst
5500s were paired using Fast EtherChannel trunks to provide redundancy.
Additional Catalyst 5500s were used to provide the access layer and allow
switched 10/100 Base T to the desktop. Connectivity to a disaster recovery
site was provided by using ATM OC3 over two 14km single mode fiber pairs. New York City - Health & Hospitals Corporation
(February 1997 - February 1998) Consultant - Network Architect Designed a Novell IntranetWare 4.11 based NDS tree
running over a frame relay network connecting all NYC HHC facilities and
hospitals. The design had to factor in limited network bandwidth, limited
technical support staff, a future implementation of GroupWise and a (as yet
unfinished) document management and distribution system. Additionally it had
to run on the existing server platform, since no budget had been allocated
for the purchase of new servers. Conducted test implementations of GroupWise
5.x. Provided technical and financial analysis for converting the existing
DaVinci/Global MHS based email system to GroupWise 5.x. Troubleshot Novell
NetWare and IntranetWare servers, including disaster recovery. Troubleshot
Novell workstation clients, including Client32, and MS NetWare client.
Analyzed vendor proposals from ISP’s for providing Internet access, and
fire-walling for the NYC HHC network. Included in the analysis were bandwidth
issues having to do with large document delivery, email gateways, scheduling
applications, and future streaming technologies. Authored the network
implementation plan, the NDS management guide, and the LAN administration
guide. Designed and implemented Electronic Data Transfer system allowing
outside agencies and vendors to transfer mainframe based financial and
personnel data from mainframes, and Novell LANs to NYC HHC in a secure and
reliable manner. The implementation had to adhere to systems requirements set
by NYC HHC Auditors and Security. American International Group (October 1996 -
November 1996) Consultant – C/C++ Programmer Analyst Reverse engineered AIG’s mission critical insurance
premium calculation application in preparation for the development of a new
application suite. The assignment required identifying and extracting
insurance industry, and AIG specific business rules used in premium
calculations, from raw C code. The code was ten years old, had undergone
several modifications and was completely undocumented. Additionally, there
was no existing business rules dictionary to use as a reference guide, and
the deliverable date could not be changed. Volvo Cars of North America (September 1995 -
September 1996) Consultant - Network Engineer / LAN Administrator Implemented a new Cisco 7000/Baynetworks Centillion
Speedswitch based 16 Mbit Token Ring and 10/100 Ethernet network replacing
the existing 4 Mbit Token Ring network. This included migration from source
routing to EIGRP, as well as migrating from RIP and IPX RIP to EIGRP.
Supported Novell Netware 4 based LANs. Managed VCNA portion of the Volvo
